Nine Steps to Buying a Home
Know what's on your credit report and how to correct errors. Avoid making any major purchases just prior to applying for a mortgage loan. Save for down payment on home. Determine how much mortgage payment you can afford on a monthly basis. Choose an experienced real estate broker/agent familiar with the neighborhood for which you are interested. Find a mortgage lender with whom you are comfortable and who offers a competitive mortgage package. Get pre-qualified for a mortgage loan; getting pre-approved is far better! Choose the right neighborhood for you and your circumstance. Find an experienced, competent attorney who specializes in real estate law to help you negotiate the buying process.
